Alot has happened since NickerNews first reported this story of abuse and neglect by Alexis and Brett Ingraham at Fair Play Farm in Clinton.
After several media outlets attempted to take a look around the farm and interview the Ingrahams, the husband and wife team have made deliberate efforts to remove those horses from the property, owned by Ivy Rasco.
Several witnesses observed truck and trailer hauling off horses over the weekend.
NickerNews firmly believes their horses were killed and dumped on properties owned by friends or family members of Alexis in Burnham or surrounding locales.
According to a long-time Clinton resident who asked to remain anonymous, the town's Animal Control Officer, David Huff, is complicit in the goings-on at the Tardiff Road farm. According to this Clinton resident, Huff himself has a record of shooting unwanted animals, severely neglecting livestock, and abusing his powers as an ACO.

Meanwhile, NickerNews readers have come forth with their own stories of this two-pronged insult of abuse and state complacency.
The coupling of equine abuse AND inaction on behalf of the state Animal Welfare program has been repeated daily, weekly, monthly.
Indeed, readers have email documents and photos to illustrate abuse and AWP inaction dating as far back as 2002. Readers have despaired that their reports, offers of assistance, and pleas have been ignored and rebuffed by Animal Welfare, which operates within the Department of Agriculture.

I emailed all the information to my Senator and Representative last night, recieved positive response from Representative Tyler Clark. I also sent emails to every member of the Agriculture Committee, Commissioner Seth Brad Street (no responses from any of those yet) And I sent them to all the members of the Animal Welfare Advisory Council. I found this response interesting from Ms. Meris J. Bickford, Esq., Vice President Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals "Unfortunately, I have no authority to do anything in this matter beyond forwarding your email to those in state government who may have the ability to address your concerns. The MSSPA is a private, non-profit organization that receives into its care horses and other animals that have been seized by Maine law enforcement agents. The MSSPA is not a governmental agency and has no enforcement authority whatsoever. We work on behalf of the animals and do not ask for or receive any payment from any local, state, or federal agencies. We raise the money that is spent to care for the animals at the Society. May I forward your email to the Governor?s Office and to several legislators who are aware of this matter?" I told her to please forward to anyone that could help. But I do have this question what does the Animal Welfare Advisory Council do other than warm chairs at meetings if that is the response they are going to give us? I know for a fact the members of AWAC have participated in the hiring process of agents actually been at interviews so what is this all about? More passing the buck it seems to me.

Megan this has been goign on with her sense 2002 at her place in burnham .. its jsut been moved to the farm in clinton last year is what thy are saying ,, that SHE has been doing this to horses sense 2002

I made sure to indicate in my emails that this has been going on since 2002 with no respnse from AWP. There is no excuse and I do hope that the people who can do something about Ms. Worley will finally act instead of pushing under yet another carpet.

Hello Margy and other NickerNews readers, In response to your question about what do AWAC members do beyond warming chairs, kindly note that I have asked the same question from time to time. Personally, I put in a fair amount of pro bono time reviewing legislation, attending public hearings and work sessions, serving as the AWAC member on Maine's Pull Events Commission, and working with anyone willing to improve the lives of domesticated animals in Maine. To be candid, I have not found the Dept of Agriculture to be open to a more meaningful role for AWAC. I would be more than happy to participate in the hiring of agents, drafting of legislation, rules, and operation of any program within the Dept of Agriculture. If anyone wishes to suggest a way for AWAC to be more meaningful and productive, please send it my way and I will share it at AWAC. Please note that AWAC is an advisory board, per statute. Thank you, Margy, for contacting me. As I told you, I will be happy to pass your message along to those in state government with authority to act. Cordially, Meris

My fiance just spoke with Rodney Ingraham, who wanted it made clear that Ingraham Equipment and Gold Top Farm ARE NOT assisting Brett or Alexis with disposal of horses. I want to see them brought to justice as much as all of you, but I think it's important to nip rumors in the bud. Especially ones that could potentially be harmful to a family's local businesses. Thanks!

.Ivy rents this property to Lexi and her husband..She is not resonsible for their horses...Nor does she even go there that opten. I do not know how much of this is true. I hear things but dont know 1st hand..If what is being said is true I do not think the state does enough..They go after the small issues not the big ones like what is being presented here..Innocent people are going to get hurt here and I do think that is wrong...Does anyone realize that Lexi is pregnant? I dont know if she is guilty or not but this stress could hurt her baby...

Everyone keep writing!!! Last night I composed and emailed a letter to every Legislator. I received a reply from Rob Eaton / Sullivan / who seemed to be very concerned as well as from my Legislator, Seth Berry. Please - everyone - write! We have to be voices for these horses!

Hello Ms. Bickford, Thank you for your response here, I guess I am used to a much more active AWAC. I am referring to the days that produced the Red Report. And a very active AWAC that did participate in drafting of legislation. And it was only 7 years ago that Ms. Ann Jordan was sitting in on hiring process for AWP. Hence my puzzled reaction, and the comment of "warming chairs". I do see a trend in the process that has depleted the public input into the AWP it seems to have started in 2003 and has progressed from that point. I wish I could tell you how to make AWAC more meaningful and productive, I'm not even sure how that ability was lost. Maybe finding the source of that loss would be a good starting point?

Meris, Thank you for being a champion of what I am sure at times is a heart wrenching task. If you have any thoughts from a legal standpoint about how to go about changing the way the AWO is run and or laws/mandates of the state please e-mail me

Well considering I know the ACO Dave Huff he has no shot any unwanted animals in the past, Um he has been out ot the fairplay farm but as an ACO he cant do a whole lot he has turned all the evidence he has over to the state he cant do anything until the state does there part, SO dont go downing people. the one to down is the people a fairplay farm the state for not doing much and the helper at hauling horses in and out of the stable... hauling there horse in and out os state and to canada with no dealers license. But in all gods honest truth I have been there with the ACO and we have taking pictures and turned them over to the state and now his part is done with the case being turned over to the sate of maine now it is there job to haul the animals out of there. I am leaving my name anamyous but I would be more then willing to use my truck and trailer to haul animals out of there. BUT DONT JUDGE DAVE HUFF JUDGE THE STATE OF MAINE AND THE PEOPLE WORKING FOR THE STATE HANDLING THE CASE. BECAUSE THE ACO HAS DONE HIS PART.

My original take on this farm was its a rescue, however after driving by and looking at things I think maby someones good intentions have gotten out of hand and the rescue needs to be rescued. One would have to be filthy rich to properly care for ALL these horses ....wish I could help ...they do need help...and should not take anymore horses at this time...

Did anyone else see what I did on the channel 5 at noon? The girl doing the watering. Has she was walking into the barn She KICKED the horse that was standing by the barn door in the left hind leg to get it out of the way. To me that is abuse. She needs someone to kick her!!!!! I wonder how many time she has hit them with the hose.If she was really FILLING the water buckets why was the horses head over it's eyes in the bucket. Because it was EMPTY.

someone named Jessica Huff in Burnham is posting horses for sale all over Craigslist.....David Huff is the Animal Control Officer in Clinton? Something smell fishy?
2/16/2010 Terry
I didn't see the girl but I saw the horses and they were quite rounded. I'm getting a bit skeptical about the credibility of some of the comments on this sight. They are getting too far fetch to me.

Ok everyone .. I believe the 'cat is out of the bag'. The article on MPBN identified that it was Meris Bickford, Esq. and Marilyn Goodreau from the MSSPA as well as Janet Tuttle from Rocking T Equine Rescue who were the ladies that 'visited' Fair Play Farm .. I don't think I'd be questioning the creditability or validity of the complaint or information. You won't fine anyone more qualified!
2/17/2010 J
Well to begin with , i also know the so called ACO Dave Huff very well , and you really can not trust him at all. I know very well that he has killed many animals .... including horses for his friends and Family.. His daughter in Burnham , Jessica Huff also has had many , many complaints on how she cares for her horses and once again nothing has ever happened to her or her close friends ... and they all know who they are ..... because Dave Huff would be called to her rescue and nothing would be done.Everyone seems to be intimadated by him because he is a so called an ACO , so i think we should let him go and elect another well Qualified ACO that will do the JOB the way it should be done.
2/17/2010 Terry
I will agree about Dave Huff. He has had numerous complaints about him. I know for a FACT that 2 horses 4 years ago were removed from his premise because he had a mare and foal locked in the barn for 4 months in the winter.State showed up and he had 1 day to remove the horses. They were in terrible condition. States records, look it up! HOWEVER he still is an ACO? I don't understand how someone who can't take care of his OWN animals can have this job? He also has been turned in for dogs tied outside in freezing temperatures with inadequate shelter and water. State says as long as there is "hay" inside of the dog house, they are fine". They get away with everything!

I have a contact in PETA. Anyone with pics and first hand information as to whats been seen on this farm in the last month or so expectantly the past couple weeks. please please email me... blueangel1314 @ hotmail dot com
2/19/2010 Terry (one)
There is a distinction between Terry's. I'm the Terry that drives by the place everyday. Terry talking about Dave Huff is one of the same. Just want to make that clear.
2/19/2010 horse owner
I did watch the news, I believe this is getting a little out of hand. I saw the horses and they looked fine to me. The older the horse, they start looking worse because of age, not being abused!!! I think Terry is right, they need help, because I believe they are taking care of the horses, but mabe have one too many at this time. Sometimes others have good intentions to call animal welfare, because they know nothing about caring for horses, but should just stay out of it unless it is extreme, and a vet agrees!!!! But not EVERYONE agrees on how lHorses should be housed!!
2/20/2010 Meghan
Ok give me a BREAK the horses look good there now and before when the TV crew was there because the SKINNY AND SICKLY looking ones have been removed from the farm. what has this world come to people Are defending thoes WHO DO NOT TAKE SUFFICIANT CARE OF THERE HORSES!!! come on how far does this have to go do they all have to become so thin they will soon die as many of the already removed horses have become. If you have NOT seen the horses that are Skinny it does not mean they are not there or were not there. Come one people this is not the horses Choice and they can not just go get food and water when they want. Some one has chosen to Keep the horses The horses have NOT Chosen to Stay there. PLAIN AND SIMPLE! To All of you that have not given up on this fight for the horses I thank you and one day so will the Angels in horsehair thank you again.
2/23/2010 Elaine
I'm just trying to get this clear in my head ...Are you saying that they got rid of these thin horses before the state came in and their farm vet isn't credible?
2/23/2010 Michelle
I heard from a reliable source, that the so called farm vet.. Well he aint the farm vet. He was called in when this was reported to the State and was only out there the one time with the state. So if that is the case, then it seems there really is no farm vet.. Even the state cant keep their lies straight. I heard that this so called farm vet they claim to have (but the vet claims not) made a donation of supplies to the farm while he was out there the one time.. Hmmmmmmm.. Very interesting... I have never met this Vet they claim is the farm vet. But has anyone talked to him and asked if he was the farms vet.. Im thinking he may well be being slammed on here all because he was called out once by the state and never by the farm managers. That does not make him the farms vet.. That makes him the States scape goat..And a caring scape goat at that to make such a large donation as I am told he made. Well just my opinion...
2/24/2010 Everet
I have seen the farm vet there a number of times because I use the same one! And he does not give per bono work either. He's darn good and extremely reputable. And I know he has been going out there since October. I have been following this case since it started, some of the information is good and some is totally bogus. True credibility comes from first hand experience and the truth. There are too many people relying on "credible sources which ruins the true voices who care." That's my two cents!!
2/24/2010 Jessica
All of this talk about it being ok because older horses and Thoroughbreds are hard to keep weight on is pathetic. I have both TBs, and older horses, and OLDER TBs and it is NOT hard to keep weight on them if you make an effort. Good quality hay, a well thought out feed program, regular worming and keeping an eye on their teeth, and they will look no different than a young Quarter Horse. Bottom Line: THE HORSES ARE NOT BEING FED ENOUGH. Maybe they are being fed, but clearly, many of them are not getting enough calories. It's as simple as that. If they are new arrivals and are thin, then they should be wearing properly fitted blankets, and there should be an effort made to make sure each and every horse as free access to hay, even if they are the low man on the totem pole. Horses with rain rot should also be kept dry, and the rain rot should be treated. If Alexis and Brent really do mean well, than they need to admit that they are over their heads and unable to provide the correct care these horses deserve. It's that simple.
